Executive Vice President. Chief Operating Officer Midtown Alliance




Shannon Powell has more than 20 years of multi-disciplinary city planning and urban design experience. She is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In this role, she has been responsible for the development and implementation of award-wining Blueprint Midtown, a community-based master plan for Midtown Atlanta.

In 2010, Midtown Alliance was awarded the “Deal of the Decade” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Other awards include “Outstanding Planning Implementation” by the Georgia Planning Association, “Development of Excellence Award” by the Atlanta Regional Commission, and “ Development of Excellence” by the Urban Land Institute. Under her leadership, the Midtown Alliance has implemented over $66 million of an $82 million dollar capital improvements plan that has transformed 13 miles of streetscapes and completed an AIA award winning public plaza.

In 2001, she led the Midtown Alliance’s effort for adoption of new zoning codes by the City of Atlanta as an implementation tool for the Blueprint Midtown plan. In 2010, she directed the marketing of Midtown’s digital media campaign which launched www.MidtownATL.com to promote Midtown as a destination for events, local restaurants, retail, hotels and cultural venues. Ms. Powell manages strategic planning for the development of The Midtown Mile, a bold vision for a million square feet of one-of-a-kind, authentic, street-level retail along Atlanta’s most famous corridor, Peachtree Street.

Shannon has a BS degree in Urban Studies from the College of Charleston and a Master of City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
