COL. WAYNE MOCK, PUBLIC SAFETY MANAGER

Thirty-Year Atlanta Police Department Veteran & Former Atlanta Downtown Improvement District Public Safety Manager Takes “Midtown Blue” and “Midtown Green” to the Next Level.

Midtown Alliance appointed Colonel Wayne Mock to the newly created position of Public Safety Manager/Homeland Security Coordinator on January 24, 2005.

Col. Mock, a 30-year Atlanta Police Department veteran and former Atlanta Downtown Improvement District public safety manager, is responsible for the highly successful Midtown Blue Public Safety Force and Midtown Green Environmental Maintenance programs – both of which have been hailed by commercial property owners and residents as an integral part of the renaissance of Midtown. Col. Mock leads both operations to ensure they work together and keep pace with Midtown’s growth in office space, retail, and new residents.

“Public safety and environmental maintenance go hand-in-hand, and both have contributed significantly to our success to date,” said J. Donald Childress, chairman, Midtown Improvement District. “As our track record demonstrates, our formula for success is based on the ability of our programs to evolve as our community grows, and the continued success of Midtown Blue and Midtown Green requires taking both to the next level. Nobody is better suited to do so than Wayne, and we are honored he has chosen to join us,” said Mr. Childress.

Col. Mock came to the Midtown Alliance from the Hall Country Sheriff’s Office where he held the position of Chief Deputy since 2002. His Hall County accomplishments include achieving state certification and securing a recommendation for national accreditation as well as a recent grant that awarded communications for SWAT personnel, ballistic entry vest and a communications vehicle.

“When Midtown Alliance asked me to help create the job description for this new position, I quickly realized this would be a unique opportunity for someone, and when they asked me to be that someone, I honestly could not resist,” said Col. Mock. “I believe in the power of integrating partners with similar goals to achieve the greatest possible results, so being challenged to make it even more effective as Midtown continues to grow is something I genuinely look forward to doing."

Midtown Improvement District
Established in the spring of 2000 and reauthorized for another six years in 2006, the Midtown Improvement District (MID) is a self-taxing district created by Midtown commercial property owners to fund local public improvement projects. Midtown Blue and Midtown Green are Midtown Alliance programs funded by the MID.

Midtown Blue
Since its inception in 2000, Midtown Blue, a 24/7 public safety rotating team of off-duty Atlanta police officers, has made a significant difference by proactively patrolling the streets and sidewalks of the Midtown Improvement District. Midtown's overall crime rate was down 31% between 2004 and 2005.

Midtown Green
Midtown Green Environmental Maintenance cleans sidewalks and streets daily with All Terrain Litter Vacuums and collect more than 450 gallons of trash daily. The team members also partner with the City of Atlanta to have crosswalks striped, curbs painted yellow, new street signage installed, sewer grates repaired or replaced, drainage issues addressed, and street and pedestrian lights repaired.
