CITYSCAPES . OVERVIEW

Creating a Pedestrian-Friendly Community. Midtown Alliance, with the financial support of the Midtown Improvement District (MID), has embarked on a multi-year, $75 million public improvements program for ten major corridors, encompassing more than 25 miles of improvements. The goals of Midtown Cityscapes are to improve sidewalk conditions and traffic flow, add lights and trees, create urban parks and green space, and promote pedestrian usage.

Thoroughly deliberated and carefully structured, Cityscapes is transforming key Midtown streets and public spaces into a model urban community. Features of the massive public improvement program include sidewalks wide enough for passing pedestrians; lights that illuminate sidewalks, streets and buildings; and trees planted along street curbs to provide shade, protect people from traffic and create a visually appealing sense of place.

*Upgrade to the traffic signals heads and pedestrian signals heads started early February and willl continue through September 2010. The upgrades consist of replacing all incandescent signal heads with energy efficient LED signal heads. About one-half of the existing pedestrian heads will be replaced with new countdown pedestrian heads. This work will not affect the traffic timing. In order to perform the work there will be lane closures from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
