TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS . OVERVIEW

Midtown is fortunate to have four MARTA rail stations, a network of bus and trolley routes and homes within walking distance of employment centers. Even so, three-quarters of all Midtown commuters choose to drive their automobiles solo. If this trend continues along with Midtown’s dramatic population growth, the results are certain to be traffic congestion, poor mobility and air pollution that will undermine the quality of life in Midtown.

An initiative of Midtown Alliance, Midtown Transportation Solutions (MTS) promotes a balanced transportation system to improve mobility. MTS works with Midtown employers and property managers, extending commute options and benefits programs to office building tenants. Funding comes from a federal transportation grant and the Midtown Improvement District, a self-taxing district created by Midtown commercial property owners and facilitated by Midtown Alliance.

Since its inception in January 2001, MTS has vigorously accepted its charge: to change commuter habits and provide transportation options that are convenient, safe and cost-effective. Consider these MTS services available to Midtown Alliance members:

  • Discounted transit passes: Thousands of MARTA passes are sold each month to Midtown employers at a 5% discounted rate. Conveniently, MTS also sells GCT, CCT and GRTA Xpress transit passes to Midtown employers. Click here for more information.
  • Vanpools: MTS partner employers have access to a network of established vanpools. As a result of this program, more than 100,000 vehicle trips annually have been eliminated.
  • Carpools: MTS carpooling efforts, which match interested carpool participants and provide financial incentives, have helped reduce the number of motor vehicle trips by more than 900,000 annually.
  • Bike racks: To encourage bicycle commuting, MTS has installed 40 bicycle racks at major Midtown destinations.

By reaching out to employers, employees, residents, and property managers, MTS is creating transportation solutions that work for all of Midtown.
